Jedes Jahr wird mit Spannung die neue Skulptur des Goodwood Festival of Speed erwartet. Künstler Gerry Judah kreiert seit vielen Jahren spaktakuläre Riese-Kunstwerke und kombiniert sie zu den jeweiligen „featured Marques“ der Veranstaltung. Dieses Jahr wird das Kunstwerk von BMW gesponsert, denn man feiert die 100jährige Geschichte des Unternehmens auch in England.
„Seit 19 Jahren lasse ich mir immer wieder etwas Neues einfallen. Jedes Jahr grüble ich über etwas, das ganz speziell und anders sein soll, als alle Jahre zuvor“, berichtet Gerry Judah.
Die BMW Centenary Skulptur ist nun das 20. Werk von Gerry. Sie zeigt seine Entschlossenheit, die Grenzen des Machbaren zu überwinden. Gerry sagt über seine Arbeit in Goodwood: „Die kritische Sache für diese Stücke ist, dass sie Inkonen werden müssen. Unterschiedlich, einzigartig, aber klassisch.“
Gerry’s Werk beim Festival of Speed ist das Symbol für die 200.000 Zuschauer des Festivals. Vom rustikalen Stahlgerüst der Skulptur Land Rover im Jahr 2008 veränderte es sich jährlich. Die Skulpturen sind heute Europas größte regelmäßig in Auftrag gegeben Installationen.
